A conversation with suggestions: 吧 (ba) particle

We have already talked about the  (ba) particle in a previous lessons, now let's see how it is used in a colloquial conversation between two friends. The  particle emphasizes the sentence tone for suggestion or proposal. The use is very similar to the 吗 (ma) particle, it is placed at the end of the sentence.



Chinese suggestions with 吧




大卫, 你有事吗?
Dà wèi, nǐ yǒushì ma?
David, are you busy?

我没有事
Wǒ méiyǒu shì
I am not

我们去看中国电影吧
Wǒmen qù kàn zhòngguó diànyǐng ba
Let's go to watch a Chinese movie

好吧. 电影几点开始?
Hǎo ba. Diànyǐng jǐ diǎn kāishǐ?
Ok. What time does the movie starts?

两点一刻. 现在几点?
Liǎng diǎn yī kè. Xiànzài jǐ diǎn?
Two fifteen. What time is it?

现在大概十二点钟. 还有时间, 我们先去饭馆吃饭吧.
Xiànzài dàgài shí'èr diǎn zhōng. Hái yǒu shíjiān, wǒmen xiān qù fànguǎn chīfàn ba.
Now about twelve o'clock. Still have time, let's go first to a restaurant to eat.

好吧. 那个饭馆的菜很好吃. 去哪儿, 好不好?
Hǎo ba. Nàgè fànguǎn de cài hěnhào chī. Qù nǎ'er, hǎobùhǎo?
Alright. That restaurant's food is very delicious. Let's go there, okay?

好, 就去哪儿吧.
Hǎo, jiù qù nǎ'er ba.
Good, let's go there right now.
