Conversation: opening hours

A dialog to ask about opening hours in Chinese

A common conversation is to ask for the opening hours of shops and any other establishment. Thus we learn the use of the verb open (the door) 开门 (kāimén) and close (the door) 关门 (guānmén).

Zài zhōngguó, shāngdiàn jǐ diǎn kāimén?
In China, what time do the stores open?

Yībānláishuō shàngwǔ jiǔ diǎn kāimén.
Generally open at nine o'clock.

Jǐ diǎn guānmén?
What time do the shops close?

Yībānláishuō cóng shàngwǔ jiǔ diǎn dào wǎnshàng jiǔ diǎn yīzhí kāimén.
Generally from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm are continuously open.

Ā ā! Zài yìdàlì shāngdiàn zhōngwǔ guānmén.
Ah! In Italy shops close at midday.

Zhēnde ma?
Really?

Zhēnde! Dànshì, cóng xiàwǔ sì diǎn dào wǎnshàng bā diǎn bàn yīzhí kāimén.
Really! However, from four o'clock to half past eight are continuously  open.
