Vocabulary: Yesterday, today, tomorrow...

If we make time references to past or future actions, we need to learn more vocabulary than the present references.

present
With  (jīn) character we can indicate that we are talking of this day and this year

jīntiān
today

jīnnián
this year

In contrast, to reference the current month we should use the character (běn) without classifier

běnyuè
this month

But the most common way to say this is month is to say "this", remember the classifier

zhège yuè
this month

past
To reference near past time we use three different characters

zuótiān
yesterday

shànggè yuè
last month

qùnián
last year

more past time
If you want to reference a time prior to the recent past, use the character

qiántiān
the day before yesterday

qiánnián
the year before last

qiángè yuè
not very common, but this is the way to indicate the previous month to the previous month

future
Again, same character for day and year, different for month

míngtiān
tomorrow

xiàgèyuè
next month

míngnián
next year

more future
is the character used for more future times. It isn't used with month word

hòutiān
the day after tomorrow

hòunián
the year after next

Remember to use the classifier with month character, day and year never use them.
