Chinese nominal classifiers

As we explained previously the classifiers can be classified into nominal and verbal classifiers. Let us see in detail some nominal classifiers, used to classify an object or count it.

General classifier
Used with objects that have handle
běn
Used books and similar objects
kuài
Used with objects that are divided into pieces
liàng
Used with wheeled vehicles
tái
Used with devices and gadgets
xiē
Used to indicate indeterminate amount or
plural of pronouns and demonstrative adjectives
zhāng
used with flat objects
zhī
Used with long thin objects


There are some exceptions such as (tiān) day or (nián) year that never wear a classifier front.
