Chinese hours

What time is it? Time is expressed in Chinese similar to the way we do? First you need to learn the Chinese numbers. Once you dominate the Chinese numbers, the new vocabulary to express the time is pretty easy.

Question: What time is it?
现在几?
Xiànzài jǐ diǎn?

Answer
现在 + time
现在九点钟
Xiànzài jiǔ diǎn zhōng
Now nine o'clock

To express “o'clock” Chinese uses 点钟 (diǎn zhōng). To express “half hour” you can say 30 minutes, but the better translation of half is  (bàn). 15 minutes, a “quarter of hour”, is expressed with  (kè). Another very useful word is  (chà) used to express the difference or the lack of time.

Finally, take note how to say hour and minutes in Chinese because are used often: 小时 (xiǎoshí) and  (fēn).
